“An Adoption Story – How I Became A Big Brother” is a first person account from a child’s perspective. Joshua explains how his little brother came into the family. It’s geared for very young children, and can be used as an opening to a dialogue about adoption and how adopted children arrive. In this particular case, the child is of a difference race, so trans-racial families might also find it helpful in explaining adoption to their children. If you would like to purchase a copy of this book, we have copies in stock for $12.95 + shipping and handling. Please send an e-mail to us at alaboroflove@verizon.net for further details and to order.
Literary
Recommendation
While
there are many books written on the subject of adoption, I am proud to
say that one, in particular, is worthy of mention here. Adoption
Nation, How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming America,
written by Adam Pertman, gives a broad view of the current state of adoption
in America. Lauded by the American Adoption Congress, Adoption
Nation will open your eyes! It's author was nominated for
a Pulitzer Prize for his series of adoption articles published by the
Boston Globe. He has been awarded the Century Foundation's Leonard Silk
Journalism Fellowship for Adoption
Nation. Other honors include the "Special Friend of
Children" award from the New England Council of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry as well as Book of the Year by the National Adoption Foundation.
"I was privileged to work with Adam and his wife Judy during the
adoption of their second child," says Tina Tyra, founder of A
Labor of Love Adoptions.
Adam's success with this book is no accident. If you'd like to get more
information or find out about Adam's speaking schedule, please contact
him at www.adoptionnation.com.
